An appeal to The Gambia National Transport Association

Editor,

Please, allow me space to express my utmost disapproval with Gambian drivers. I will be grateful if my concerns are addressed. It is interesting to note that, what I would call sub car parks within the Greater Banjul Area are increasing on a daily basis, and this is causing numerous problems for travellers who frequent these commercial vehicles on their way to and from work.

These sub car parks include Tabokoto Junction, around the traffic light there, West Field /Sabina car park. On your way to West Field, from Bakau, most vehicle owners call for traffic light, instead of West field. And coming from West Field, going to Bakau, they will call for Sabina, instead of Bakau. From West filed going towards Brikama end, they will call for Tabokoto, instead of Brikama or Lamin, and upon arrival in Tabokoto, they will start calling for Lamin or Brikama. The trend has caused so many travellers to pay double fare.

My concern is that I want to know whether the system in place is a right one or not. Are the drivers doing it on their own freewill or are they mandated by a recognized organization? So many people complain everyday about the issue, and most of these people have so many household responsibilities to settle. Something has to be done to stop this unscrupulous attitude. A recognized car park must be in place to eradicate this existing phenomenon. I want the Gambia National Transport Association to solve this problem.
