Dr Tamsir Mbowe, director general of the President ‘s Treatment Programme and director of Medical Services, yesterday received medical assortments on behalf of President Alhaji Dr Yahya Jammeh, at a ceremony held at the newly constructed Serrekunda Hospital. The items were donated by Jan and Didy Steenhuis from the Future in our Hands in Holland and the Kairaba Pharmaceutical.
Presenting the gifts, Jan Steenhuis, co-founder of The Future in our Hands, said the donation was as a result of an agreement they had with the savvy medical director to help The Gambia with medical assortments.
“We then decided to offer help to the health sector and other sectors for 10 years. Back home, we are assisted by people in Holland who have The Gambia at heart. We are committed and we will always be committed to help the Gambia people”.
For his part, Matarr Bojang of Kairaba Pharmaceutical, said their donation of medicaments to the Kanilai Farm will now be on a monthly basis for the next two years.
In receiving the items, Dr Mbowe elaborated on the relationship with Jan Steenhuis, whom he had briefed on the President‘s Treatment Programme during a visit to Netherlands.
Dr Mbowe added Jan Steenhuis was very impressed with what they have been doing. “This time around, he decided to bring bio-medical and hospital equipment for the Presidential Medical Team”.
He thanked the two donors for the assistance and then heaped praises on President Jammeh for giving the health sector a topmost priority, assuring that the items will redistributed to health facilities countrywide.
