AELCP Donates to Eight Villages

The Africa Emergency Locust Control Programme (AELCP) has recently donated locust control materials to eight villages in the Upper River Region as part of their contribution to the fight against locusts in The Gambia.

The donated items include compound fertilisers, seeds and herbicide. Speaking at the presentation ceremony, the governor of URR Mr. Omar Khan, thanked AELCP for their immense contribution to the fight against locusts. He added that the donated items would help greatly in the ongoing struggle by protecting farmers from crop destruction.

He assured the donors that the items will be put to good use. Speaking earlier the coordinator of AELCP, Mr. Sheikh Tijan Sosseh, expressed his organisations readiness to fight locusts in West Africa. He revealed that locusts are the worst enemy of crops and urged the beneficiaries of the donation to put the items to very good use.
