The police special task force patrol unit late last Saturday between 2300 and 2400 hours, arrested two young men alleged to have posed as officers of The Gambia Police Force, at Sayer Jobe Avenue, where they were extorting money from drivers and  passengers.

These two impostors, according to ASP Landing Bojang, police officer-in-command, Kanifing Division, are Jawara Dem and Muhammed S Bah, who are both employees of Gambia Ports Authority, working in the capacity of security officer. ASP Landing Bojang said the duo who were in muftis on late Saturday at the Sayer Jobe Avenue intercepted a commercial car driven by Foday Kanyi, and charged him for improper parking. “As Foday Kanyi was trying to plead with them, they collected D50 from him and turned to the passengers in the car,” he said.

ASP Bojang further revealed that the two impostors searched Ahmadou Camara, the passenger in the taxi and took away another D450 they found on him. He stated that these two men were deceiving people with their official GPA staff identity cards. “Jawara Dem carries ID card number ‘0932 GPA employee 2005’ while Muhammed S Bah goes round with ‘ID card 0206 GPA employee 2005,” he said.

The two are currently under police custody at the Serrekunda Police Station for further investigation.
