It is now becoming more difficult for prosecutions and impossible for courts to proceed with some cases due to the fact that files sent to the AG’s Chambers by prosecutors for advice are not returned on time.
This became an issue of concern when the case of one Abdou Kareem Konteh, who is standing trial in a criminal case before Acting Principal Magistrate Kumba Sillah-Camara of the Bundung Magistrates Court, was called. The prosecution told the court that the case file is still at the Attorney General’s Chambers. According to the prosecution, it is a necessary procedure that some criminal case files be sent to the AG’s office for legal advice.
Though not disputing the prosecutor’s point, the legal counsel provided for the accused by the state, Kebba Sanyang, complained about the delays, which have become an issue in every court across the country. Acting Principal Magistrate Kumba Sillah-Camara urged prosecutors to get their files from the AG’s Chambers as soon as possible for quick proceeding of cases. She also urged the prosecutors to always do follow-ups of the files at the AG’s office.
She additionally appealed to senior officers among them to find a permanent solution that will hasten their work for the interest of justice. Corporal Sarr represented the IGP.
