Twenty-five people from all walks of
life were last Thursday April 24th decorated with national honours.
The recipients, who included both
Gambians and non-Gambians were honoured in recognition of their contribution to
the socio-economic development of The Gambia. The event, which now has become a
historic event, is convened annually to recognise the contribution and efforts
of deserving personalities. It is customarily conducted on the 24th of April
which is Gambia’s
Republic day. They were decorated by the President, Alhaji Dr. Yahya Jammeh, at
the State House in Banjul.
Those awarded are: Sedi Muhammed
Ould Sidati, former Mauritian Ambassador to The Gambia, Justice Emmanuel Agim,
the President, Gambia Court of Appeal, Hussien Tazaddin, a business man, Hassan
Akar, also a business man, Mr. Roger Bakurin, Chief Fire Officer, Ms Fatoumata
Waggeh, an activist, Aji Fatou Badjan an APRC yai compin in KMC, Tarik Bensuda,
proprietor of Coconut Residence, Rev Francis Forbes, Yusupha Dibba, Bolong
Sonko, Alhaji Ousman Ceesay, Chief Protocol to the president, The Late Omar Bun
Jeng, Sheriff Sawaneh, Balla Musa Sanyang , Chief of Foni Berefet, Ebou Jobe, a
messenger at the National Assembly, Alhaji Kitim Gibba, Malick Mbye, Chief of
Upper Saloum, The Late Alhaji Musa Camara of GRTS Basiru Gassama, DJ Lamin Cham,
Baboucarr Bouy, Permanent Secretary, Department of State for Basic and
Secondary Education and Dr. Njogu Bah, Permanent Secretary (number one) Office
of the President.
