Taxpayers must foot R4m bill for pay rises for BCM councillors

BUFFALO City Municipality yesterday voted to pay more than R4million in salary increases to its 89 councillors. The decision follows recommendations by the Moseneke Commission to adjust the pay of public office bearers. The adjustments include a salary increase of 11 percent, effective from April 1 this year, and a constituency allowance provided for in terms of the Income Tax Act.
