For heritage and culture, the study of isiXhosa should be a priority, writes Lindile Sifile THE future of isiXhosa may be under threat as more and more matriculants at former Model C schools in the province choose to study Afrikaans as their additional language instead of their mother tongue. Only 12723 of the 590 000 matric pupils wrote one of the nine African languages available in the school curriculum this year, according to Education Department statistics and only 1602 wrote isiXhosa....
