Senegalese High Court Rejects Opposition Petition

The High Court of Senegal yesterday rejected the petition of the former ruling party, P.S, which has sought the cancellation of the June 3rd parliamentary elections. The PS said in the petition that President Wade does not respect the demarcation of the 36 districts.

According to Senegalese electoral law, which operates on the principle of proportional representation, districts with more population have more representatives in the National Assembly. They said President Wade favoured districts believed to be his strongholds to get more seats.

In all there are 150 seats to be contested on June 3rd and 14 opposition parties have boycotted the parliamentary elections after having rejected the results of the last February presidential elections.
