Gambian shot, arrested in Mozambique?

Friday, February 8, 2008

Unconfirmed reports reaching the Daily Observer by phone from New York stated that one Amara Touray of Koina in Upper River Region was shot in the mouth, robbed of US$40,000, and taken from the hospital to police cells in Mozambique.

It was also reported that more Gambians and West Africans are arrested for deportation.

The caller from New York was one Muhammedou Sandeh Gumaneh, also a native of Koina.

Muhammedou sounded distressed and said that the Gambians in Mozambique have no consular or diplomatic protection.

We could not verify the story as we went to press.
