The Gambia FA Cup Champions, Ports Authority, suffered a shock elimination from the CAF Confederation Cup Championships at the hands of ES Bengerville of Ivory Coast on Saturday.
The Gambia’s sole representatives in this year’s continental club competition lost 0-3 to their host and crashed out on aggregate 4-0.
The setback may further loosen newly hired coach Ebrima Cham-Joof’s grip on his post, as many critics believe the inexperienced former Real de Banjul ace is too young to manage the mighty Ports Authority side.
Fired last season by Division Two giants, Ham Ham, coach Ebrima Cham-Joof made a quick return to the coaching arena when he replaced coach Alagie Sarr as Ports Authority head coach during the break.
He went ahead to lose his debut match against the Abidjan club in the first-leg of the Confederation Cup tie in Banjul. However, coach Joof-Cham restored some pride when he led the Ferry Boys to the Super Cup title after a 1-0 win over Real de Banjul a week later.
Ports Authority under then coach Alagie Sarr bowed out of last year’s CAF Champions League competition at the second round stages after eliminating the Ghana giants, Ashanti Kotoko, in the preliminary ties.
