Gambian international referee, Modou Sowe, will take charge of his first match in the on-going African Nations Cup finals holding in Ghana. Observer Sports has confirmed that The Gambia’s sole referee in the continent’s premier football competition will officiate one of the Group C matches between the Indomitable Lions of Cameroon and the Pharaohs of Egypt at 17:00 hours today at Kumasi - a tie which is has been dubbed by pundits as the clash of the giants.

Modou Sowe is making his third Nations Cup appearance in Ghana having officiated in the 2004 and 2006 Nations Cup finals hosted in Tunisia and Egypt, respectively.

Prior to his departure for the Ghana finals, the 44-year old, who felt more excited than proud for being the only Gambian referee in the high-profile tournament, spoke of his desire to bag a memorable tournament, noting that as a man of principle, he will only apply his principle during the two-week long competition ending on February 10, 2008.
