A heavy flood has unleashed havoc at Burmang Vilage in Foni Jarrol, Western Region, leaving at least six families without a home.
The families of Baa Kolly, the former Alkalo of the village, Momodou Sonko and Baba Galleh Barry, among others, had their homes destroyed by last weekend’s flood.
Speaking in an interview with the Daily Observer, Momodou Sonko, one of the victims, said in his shop, three bags of flour and D1,500 cash perished during the flood. Sonko added that six of his goats drowned in the heavy flood.
Sarjo M Darboe, a native of Burmang, told the Daily Observer that some of the affected families are forced to walk more than 2km to a neighbouring village everyday, to spend the night there.
Mr Darboe appealed to the public, NGOs, private individuals and the government to help the displaced villagers, who are currently living in difficult conditions.
