Western Region Sports Committee is set to organise a peace tournament that is expected to gather over ten villages within Kombo Central District, Lamin King Colley, chairman of the region’s sports committee told Observer Sports.

Colley, who doubles as chairman of the Brikama Youth and Sports Association, said the inter-village competition is tentatively scheduled to commence on May 11. He said that thirteen out of the targeted fifteen villages within the district, have so far shown their interest to participate in the competition that will be sponsored by his regional sports committee.

King Colley said the tournament, dubbed Peace Tournament, is primarily meant to cement the cordial relations that exist between the villages in the district.

Meanwhile, another district tournament, this time at Kombo East District, is currently underway at the nation’s most populated region.

The twelve-village competition started on Sunday, April 27, as Basori FC defeated Sohm FC 2-1 in a fiercely competed opener.

Sunday’s kick-off was graced by scores of dignitaries, including the National Assembly member and Chief of the district, Lamin Bojang and Alhagie Basiru Jarju respectively, Bintanding Jarju, National Assembly member for Foni Bintang and Alasana Jarju, chairperson of Kombo East District Sports Association.
