Tujereng, others get educational, health boost

The community of Tujereng and its surrounding villages, ‘Baato-Kunku’ and St Frances villages in Kombo South, Western Region, were recently donated with learning materials and medical equipment.

These materials were donated by a British couple, Paul Throne and Carlos Throne during a presentation ceremony held at Tujereng village.

Speaking at the ceremony, Mr Paul Throne said the  donation came as a result of a partnership forged eleven years back during a visit to The Gambia.

“During these visits, we met some school children and we gave them books and writing materials and promised to give them  more support in subsequent visits. Since then, we started raising funds for the school and the surrounding villages and the funds we gather are used to buy school materials and hospital equipment,” she said.

Karamo Bojang, Alkalo of Tujereng, who doubles as the principal of Nusrat Ahmadiyya Senior Secondary School in Bundung, welcomed Mr and Mrs Throne and commended them for choosing his village. He lauded the gesture and described the donors as true friends.

Mr Bojang thanked the donors for their contribution to The Gambia’s development and assured them of their highest consideration in the Gambia.

Other speakers at the ceremony included the representatives of the beneficiaries of the ‘Baato-kunku and St Frances communities. The ceremony included performances by cultural troops.
