The Organisation of Aid for Orphans and the Disable (AFOD) recently celebrated its four year’s anniversary, backed by Gamcel, at a ceremony held at BO Semega Janneh hall.

Speaking at the ceremony, Lamin E Fofana, director of AFOD said, his humanitarian organisation headed by young Gambian’s was established in Bundung Borehole on March 24, 2004. According to him, since then, they have been providing support and assistant’s to the disable and the orphans through a cordial partnership with donors and partner agencies.  

He added that as part of his organisation’s  strategic plan for 2008, a fun park and micro-finance scheme is on the offing all year towards the support of the well-being of the people inorder to provide them with the necessary training for the up keeping of their family.

He thanked the Entysaccumen, a UK base consultancy from Wales for assisting them with the necessary support to build on their capacity. He also called on donors and partners in development, to assist the organisation to acheive its aims and objectives.

Ousman Bah from the department of state for Education said the new education policy under DOSE preview has assured every Gambian access to quality education on the Education For All Policy.  He noted that, the policy is geared towards providing the necessary needs to cater for every child in the education system.

Oustass Muhammed Lamin Khan of City Limits Radio thanked the organisation for what he called a bold move in the right direction towards the support of the disable and orphans.

He noted that Prophet Mohammed was on orphan of loose both of his parents at an early age and left in the hands of others for his up keeping. He then urged for more responsibility towards the venurable by assisting them with the necessary support to gain a meaningful life in society.

Other speaker’s included Madi Jorbarteh of The Gambia Revenue Authority and Bakary Badjie of the Child Protection Alliance.
