Face-lift at Sukuta mini-stadium

In its drive to contribute to sports development in The Gambia, the Sukuta Youth and Sports Association is given its mini-stadium a total face-lift. The upgrading work will commence on Sunday, January 13, 2008, a press release issued by the Sukuta sports association has revealed.

According to the release, the project, which is estimated at D800.000 (eight hundred thousand dalasis), will include the erection of a perimeter fence and planting of bahama grasses.

“The first phase of the project will take-off with the perimeter fence which is going to be shaped in a way to accommodate athletic competitions.  The foundation stone of this noble project was laid on Friday April 6, 2007, by Mr Sheih Omar Fye, former secretary of state for Youth, Sports and Religious Affairs and the works were delayed in order to play the Sukuta 2007 Nawettan,” the release said.

“The standardisation of the Sukuta football field will enhance good football and athletics and enable national sporting associations to consider using our pitch when the need arises.  Being a densely populated town in Western Region and strategically located, the social-economic impact would register positive results.”

In conclusion, the sports association praised the Gambia National Olympic Committee and Plymouth Banjul Challengers for their huge financial support.
