The Young Farmers Association of Sukuta village, Kombo North District on Tuesday, embarked on a farming exercise, which brought together young boys and girls between the ages of 13-26 years.
According to Binta Cham, Coordinator of the association, the venture is the only way forward to alleviate poverty and bring abouut food self-sufficiency. She hailed President Yahya Jammeh for his clarion call to the back-to-the-land which, she described as the only way Gambians can achieve food self-sufficiency.
“If only Gambians are ready to venture into the culture of farming, this can be realised” she said.
She further urged her fellow youth groups to revise their activities and make farming a priority and then commended Modou Cham the Alkalo of Sukuta village, with his village elders for their tireless efforts and financial support.
Momodou Cham, Alkalo of Sukuta village, thanked the youths for their brilliant initiative and assured them of his continuous support.
Other speakers at the farming exercise were Ebrima S Cham, Sukuta Village Development Chairman, Jerreh B Cham, and Alhagie Musa Bojang, all of whom expressed sentiment of commendation for the youths and hailed President Jammeh’s efforts.
