The Central River Regional Disaster Management Committee, led by the Deputy Governor Momodou Katim Touray, over the weekend gave assistance to fire victims. The help took the form of second hand clothing, rice and shoes.
Speaking at the handing over ceremony, held in Sukurr Kunda, Deputy Governor Touray said this was a set back for the affected families as fire had ruined their properties and belongings.
He further commended President Jammeh for establishing the Disaster Management Committee under the Vice Presidents office.
The DG further thanked Bansang hospital and the management of the SEN for sheltering the victims.
He appealed for more urgent assistance from NGOs, individuals and charitable organisations.
The Chief Executive Officer of Bansang Hospital Baboucarr Jammeh, said that when fire disaster strikes at this time of the year the people affected suffer because agricultural products are stored at home. He urged the affected families to have faith as nobody intends to fall victim to disasters such as this.
Speaking on behalf of the victims of the fire Mr. Foday Touray hailed the efforts of the Regional Disaster Committee under the office of the Governor of CRR.
He went on to say that their belongings were all consumed by the fire. He then thanked the management of Bansang Hospital and the SEN for their humanitarian assistance, adding that Red Cross volunteers, led by Pa Musa Kijera, had done wonderful work in helping the fire victims during a most difficult time.
