Wednesday, January 30, 2008

At least two compounds were destroyed by fire at Bansang Sukur Kunda in the Upper Fulladu District in CRR South recently. The compounds belonged to Fouday Touray and Yaha Sowe. According to them their food stuffs, clothing, cooking utensils and shelter were destroyed in the conflagration.

The affected families were being sheltered at the School for Enrolled Nurse (SEN) quarters at Bansang. The people affected are farmers and have large families.

The inferno, which left the two families homeless, started at 10am and was aggravated by strong winds. Neighbours attempted to get the blaze under control but the fire overpowered them. ”It was the fire fighters who brought the blaze under control but it lasted for four hours,” said Mr. Pa Musa Kijera the Red Cross officer.

Although the cause of the fire is not yet known it is believed to have started in the kitchen of one of the houses.
