FC Magma Win One Day Football Competition

Mr Saikou Jammeh, a Gambian based in Spain, and his counterparts on Saturday 12 January 2007 organised a one day football match between FC Magma of Latrikunda and Balneari Termas Orion Footballl club in New Jeshwang at the Serrekunda East Mini Stadium geared towards sports development in country.

The two teams named after two hotels owned by Mr Joseph Compeny a Spainish sponsor, had a very interesting performance during the one day final which ended 1-0 in favour of FC Magma. They took the lead in the 48th minute of the game through Kawsu Sanyang.

Mr Joseph Compeny, Mrs Montse Casalprim and their daughter Sara Campeny all family members of Mr Joseph Compeny attended the football match.

Speaking to pointsport after the  match, the Honorary consul of Spain  to The Gambia Juan a Del Moral Vizcaino  who is also a sponsor, described  the one day affair as sucess adding that they will try to look for ways of staging the tourney annually to promote sports in the country.

He said, “Today is a great day for me because I am happy to see a huge crowd turning out to watch the young boys play. I love football and was a player before and it is good to stage such events as it brings many people together.”

As part of the tournament, the winner received a giant trophy with two balls while the runners up went home with a trophy and footballs both teams received set a of Jersies.
