Current league leaders, Wallidan, were held to a 1-1 draw by Gamtel in the WeeK Sixteen fixture of the GFA division one league on Saturday. A stoppage time goal from Gamtel striker Kaba Jobe cancelled out Sainey Touray’s opener, and in effect denied the Blue Boys their fifth consecutive win of the second round.
After stalemate first-half encounter, Wallidan who have been in a fascination run of form since the start of the second round, opened the scoring when striker Sainey Touray (Ballack) converted a spot kick in the 67th minute.
Gamtel left it until the dying minute to grasp the equaliser. Wallidan’s Wuyeh Sey was adjudged to have handled the ball in his goal mouth, and goal poacher Kaba Jobe was available to convert the spot kick.
Wallidan still maintain the lead on the table with 30 points, but the gap could be cut to only one point if fellow contenders, Samger, could win their fixture against struggling Ports Authority today at the Serrekunda West Mini-stadium.
Elsewhere on Saturday, Steve Biko drew goalless with Sait Matty-Africell in a fiery Bakau derby tie played at the Serrekunda East Mini-stadium.
Earlier on Friday, Sea View moved up further from the drop zone after a much-needed 1-0 win against fellow strugglers, Bakau United, at the Serrekunda East Mini-stadium. The same day saw Hawks and Real de Banjul fought a tooth-and-nail nil-nil draw at the Serrekunda West Mini-stadium.
