Shell Marketing Football Final on March 15

The eagerly anticipated football final sponsored by Shell Marketing is slated for March 15th 2008.

This was revealed to Pointsports by the national sports coordinator at the Department of Sate for Basic and Secondary Education (DoSBSE) Mr. Musa Mendy.

He said that the 12th edition of the Shell Marketing sponsored inter-lower basic school football tournament final is slated on March 15th 2008 at the Sere Kunda West Mini Stadium at 4.30pm.

Mr. Mendy revealed that the football tournament was first initiated by a Nigerian technical assistant called Laloko 15 years ago. “One school will emerge as champions at the regional level for quarter, semis and finals to be played on the 12th 13th and 15th March, all at the Sere Kunda West Mini Stadium.”  This tournament, Mr. Mendy went on, started with a nation wide tour conducted by Sait Tijan Bah, Principal Assistant Secretary at (DoSBE) and Abdoulie Kah, Assistant Director at Youth and Sport to sensitise regional governors and directors about the revival of lower basic schools sports in The Gambia. He stated that the (DoSBSE) regional sports coordinators were assisted in this Shell tournament by the GFA regional coaches across the country, adding that all the regional champions will be camped at the (NYSS) in Bakau five days before the final proper. The regional qualifying schools are as follows.

Region 1 Serrekunda Lower Basic School- Kanifing

Region 2 Jamisa Lower Basic School- Brikama

Region 3 St. Michel Lower Basic School- Kerewan

Region 4 Kandembo Islamic School-Jarra Soma

Region 5 Methodist Lower Basic school-Janjangbureh.

Region 6 St George Lower Basic School- Basse
