The Disciplinary Committee of The Gambia Football Association has handed an indefinite suspension on Hawks defender Ken Malaming Jammeh for slapping a referee, Observer Sports can reveal.

The Gambia under 20 skipper faces an indefinite suspension from all league and national team duties for slapping referee Mawdu Jallow during Hawks 0-2 defeat by Armed Forces on Thursday, March 6, at the Serrekunda East Mini-stadium.

The Disciplinary Committee also handed a three-match ban on Omar Koromo and a match ban on Alieu Jagne (all Hawks players) for their involvement in the fracas.

The club’s team doctor was also given a stern warning to desist from using abusive language on match officials, as any occurrence of such act would attract strict disciplinary measures against him.

In a letter sent to the Banjul club and copied to all Division One teams, the Disciplinary Committee revealed that the decision to punish the players was reached at after a thorough scrutiny of the official match report.

These measures, the Disciplinary Committee believes, will serve as a deterrent to curb violence and unsporting behaviors from the game.

Armed Forces’ Buba Darboe capitalised on Ken Malamin Jammeh’s grave mistake to put his side forward in the first interval. And referee Mawdu Jallow’s decision to award the Soldiers a penalty in the second interval was greeted by a stamp then a nasty slap from the defender who skippered The Gambia to Canada U-20 World Cup finals where he also earned himself a deserved red card during Gambia’s second group match against Portugal.
