Aminata Jallow is Face of Gambia

Aminata Jallow, a HND student at the International Business College (IBC) was on Friday crowned Face of Gambia 2007 at a programme held at the Kairaba Beach Hotel.

Speaking at the ceremony, Angela Colley, the Secretary of State for Tourism and Culture, thanked Fabec’s Promotion in initiating such an important competition which is not only beauty contest but is meant to promote girls’ education in The Gambia.

She thanked the parents of the contestants for allowing their daughters take part and expose their talents.

For her part, Beatrice Prom of Fawegam said her institution’s association with the event when the initiator Fatima Jabbi-Soley approached them was due to the interest in supporting women and girls in their endeavours.

“At Fawegam we know how necessary it is to address areas that empower girls with skills that can build their confidence and self esteem and eliminate the obstacles that prevent their academic and social growth so that they can become useful contributing members of society”, she said

She added that they realise that these are very young girls who could benefit from positive guidance. Thus they pledged to work with not only the winner but all 20 girls at one level or another.

Aminata Jallow, Face of Gambia, who went home with a brand new car thanked Fatima Jabbi-Soley for what she described as a wonderful initiative.

Delivering the vote of thanks, Fatima Jabbi-Soley expressed gratitude to all those who in one way or the other contributed to the success of programme.

The programme was attended by thousands of spectators who were entertained by artistes from The Gambia and Mali.
