24 hotel workers certified

Twenty-four personnel from the Senegambia Beach Hotel and Sunset  Beach Hotel  were on Tuesday, November 6th, 2007 awarded certificates after successful completion of an 8-week training course on international standards .

During the course of the training, students were taught the basics of working at the front desk, attitude over the telephone, professional manufacturing and guest information among others.

Speaking at the ceremony, Juergen Odenwald, General Manager, Senegambia Beach Hotel, said human resource development is important to the effective functioning of institutions as it improves their standards. This he said, helps them to achieve their aims and objectives as far as business is concerned.

Mr Odenwald added that the Senegambia Beach Hotel will continue to collaborate with international experts in the Tourism industry to reach a new level of quality and service.  Senegambia Beach Hotel, he went on, will go extra miles to satisfy their customers and better advertise The Gambia in the international tourism market.

For her part, Ms Petra Reuter-Schafer, the training instructor said the course has enabled participants to be more professional in their duties. She added: “To get this certificate is a big step but don’t forget this is not your last step”.
The ceremony was attended by the staff of the two hotels and representatives from GTA and the Department of State for Tourism and Culture.
