A serious fire disaster, on Saturday, ravaged eight houses in one Yahya Jeng’s compound near the Ndangan Fish Processing Centre in Old Jeshwang, Daily Observer has learnt.
The fire which started at 1 am and lasted for almost an hour, left the victims in abject poverty as their houses were razed to the ground.
Speaking to the Daily Observer, Yahya Jeng, the landlord of the said compound said the cause of the fire is still not known. He said although they were assisted by their neighbours to contain the fire, everything was consumed.
Haddy Jeng, another victim of the disaster said her furniture, radio, satelite, cupboards, beds, and other materials and 134,000 CFA were all burnt.
According to her, one Lamin Charreh alias Sonko who was sick and lying on his bed in the house, sustained burns on his right arm. She disclosed that Lamin Charreh is presently at the RVTH in Banjul.
