16 Houses Destroyed in Fire Disaster

At least 16 houses have been destroyed by fire in Kusalang in Lower Fulladu West District in CRR South.

Speaking to The Point at the scene of the incident, Mr. Demba Jallow, the compound head, said he was called while at Brikaba Luumo to be told that there was fire on the roof of his houses. According to him, the source of the fire is unknown but it burned everything ranging from clothes, food stuffs, valuable articles, cooking utensils to a cash amount of D4,000.

For her part, Ramatalie Sowe said when she heard the shouts of “Fire! Fire!” she came out only to find the houses engulfed in flames. She said they could not control the fire because all the men were in Luumo. “I lost all my things including my cooking utensils, clothes, groundnuts and jewelry,” she told The Point.

She appealed for assistance from the Government, NGO’s and philanthropists to support them in the aftermath of the conflagration.

The Alkalo of the village, Gibba Jallow, expressed sympathy for the affected families and urged them to take it in good faith as nobody prays for disaster. He then appealed to Government, NGO’s and philanthropists to assist those affected.

Mr. Segga Jallow, also among the victims, thanked their neighbours for the assistance since the incident.

The Head Chief, Seyfo Momodou Lamin Baldeh, expressed his sympathy for the affected families adding that people should be mindful of fire. He urged people to handle fire carefully so as to avoid outbreaks of fire in the area.
