Scholar donates borehole to Sohm

The Special Charity Helping Ordinary People in The Gambia through Local Aid and Resource (Scholar), a UK-based charitable organisation recently donated a borehole and three stand pipes to Sohm Lower Basic School. The official handing over of the project was recently done at the school grounds in Kombo East.

Speaking at the ceremony, the country representative (Scholar) said his organisation was founded in 2005 by the late Michael David, a one time VSO volunteer with the JGST Trust in The Gambia. According to him, the friends and relatives of the late Michael took charge of the organisation by building on the dream to improve the living condition of the Gambian community.

He finally thanked the school administration for the honour and urged them to utilise the donation for the best interest of the community.

Speaking earlier, the headmaster of the school, Ebrima MJ Jallow, in his remarks, said the ceremony is yet another important one in the history of the school as it marks the inauguration of various projects by donors.

Other speakers included Banjul JT Jatta, cluster monitor for Kombo East schools, Alhagie Basiru Jarjue, chief of Kombo East, Momodou Jarjue Alkalo of Sohm. The ceremony was also attended by the director general  of the National Intelligent Agency (NIA).
