At least sixty students drawn from the various member institutions of the National Union of Gambian Students (NUGS) will today, converge at President Yahya Jammeh’s farm to assist him on his numerous agricultural endeavours geared towards food production and security.

Disclosing this to the Daily Observer, Ebrima Sanneh, President of the association said that, their idea of working at the President’s farm is in response to his back-to-the-land call.

“The participation is not only to vindicate President Jammeh’s exemplary leadership quality, but also to express our sincere appreciation, long over due to the President whose support and advice has contributed immeasurably to the defining and shaping of students unionism especially at the tertiary levels in the Gambia” Sanneh said.

According to him, the establishment of the Department of State for Higher Education, Research, Science and Technology and awarding of numerous scholarships to students in the country are indications of President Jammeh’s support of students’ needs and aspirations.

Mr Sanneh further said that the decision to go to the President’s farm came at a time when students at the tertiary level have been asking themselves “how could they fit into the development agenda of the President”.  He then noted that, this is one avenue in which their support to President can be seen and felt.
