2 drivers convicted

Magistrate Mustapha Camara of the Kanifing Municipal Court yesterday convicted and sentenced one Usman George to a fine. A resident of Bakoteh, Mr George, had been facing three count charges  contrary to the Traffic Act, and driving a vehicle without no insurance.

According to the particulars of the offense, Usman George last month allowed the use of his car without a proper license, so that he evaded payment of road tax by forging license. The accused pleaded guilty and begged the court for mercy.

In return, Magistrate Camara warned Mr George not to again allow his vehicle to be used without all the necessary documents. He informed the accused that forgery would never be tolerated, more so when it involvesd documents of the state. He then fined him to an amount of D4,000.00, in default to serve two years in jail.

In a similar development, one Mustapha Joof, who was facing a charge for driving a vehicle, registration no. BJL 5748 B, was also fined to a sum of one thousand five hundred dalasis, in default to serve a year jail term. The accused was caught driving a vehicle without a driving insurance, last month at Bakoteh.  

Passing his verdict, Magistrate Camara informed the accused that violating the regulations binding drivers was becoming the order of the day.  He strongly warned that he would not allow such act to continue. Sergeant Njai stood in for the IGP in both cases.
