Castle in Court

Biran Ceesay, an ex-employee of Castle Oil, has filed a civil suite against his former employer over a breach of contract.

The plaintiff, who was a bosun in one of the vessels belonging to Castle Shipping Company, is seeking the restitution of US$32,400 for a period of 108 months, and D300,000 for breach of contract. The case was lodged at the Kanifing Industrial Tribunal, presided over by Principal Magistrate Buba Jawo.

Mr Ceesay, who is being represented by lawyer Ousainou Darboe, a senior counsel, rebuffed the statement tendered by the defendant over the reduction of operation and law statement of service.

He also alluded that at the time of his termination in June 2006, their business was booming and services were at optimal level.

Proving the illegality of his termination, Ceesay informed the tribunal that he could remember receiving a warning letter only once, which had warned him to stay away from the captain of the ship.

At this juncture, the case was adjourned to June 26, for continuation of the proceedings.
