Kaabu Kunda emerged champions in a three-day Inter-Kunda sports championship, staged by Armitage Senior Secondary School in Janjangbureh, Central River Region. Kaabu kunta beat four other kundas; namely Niani Kunda, Fulladu Kunda, and Saloum Kunda to claim the coveted title on 419 points. Niani kunda finished hot on their heels on 353 points while the third spot was grasped by Saloum Kunda on 348 points. Fulladu Kunda finished at far bottom on 323 points.
Presenting the winner prize at the school ground, Mr. Waka Touray, Sport Master at the country’s longest-serving burden school, spoke tough on the importance of sports in any school.
He said sports should be given utmost priority in any school calendar, adding that sports is one of the media, that makes people speak with one voice, irrespective of their tribe, race or political affiliations.
Darboe thanked all those who contributed to the successful hosting of the three-day Inter-kunda championship.
In addition to claiming the top spot, Awa Nyockeh helped Kaabu Kunda grasped the Best Athlete Award for Senior Girls, while Musa Camara of Saloum kunda was crowned the best athletes in the Boys category. Binta Camara of Saloum Kunda was also crowned the best female athlete in the junior category, while Patrick Mendy helped the bottom Kunda- Fulladu Kunda, won the best Boy Athlete award in the junior category, in addition to their award of being the most discipline side in the championship.
Kaabu Kunda’s Nyomie Jarra was named the best athlete of the year.
