Jerreh Touray, who was recently arraigned before a magistrates’ court in Western Region for hit-and-run driving, has been convicted.
The Brikama Magistrates’ Court, chaired by Senior magistrate Edrisa Mbai, on Thursday imposed a three-year jail term on Jerreh for causing the death of one Sainabou Mendy of Sambuya village some few kilometres outside Gunjur in Kombo South.
He was also given another one-year jail term for refusing to report the accident to the police, thereby contravening section 53 of the Motor Traffic Act as amended.
Jerreh was also ordered to pay a compensation of D10,000 to the family of the deceased or else…
Meanwhile, to forestall his imprisonment Jerreh was given an alternative of paying court fines of D5000 and D2000 for his two-count offences respectively.
