Farato Imam’s Assailant Sent to Jail for Two Years

The long drawn-out trial of Kemo Saho over charges of violently assaulting the Imam of one of the mosques in Farato village in Kombo South has come to a definitive end.

Kemo Saho had been under-going trial at Brikama Magistrates’ Court in Western Region of The Gambia for assaulting Imam Samba Bah with a cutlass thereby causing him grievous bodily harm and Saho would now serve a two-year mandatory jail term if the judgement delivered by magistrate Edrisa Mbai is any guide.

Besides the two-year mandatory jail term, Saho risks spending another year in prisons if he defaults in paying a D1000 compensation to his victim as ordered by the court.

Meanwhile according to magistrate Mbai, he was sensitive and alive to the fact that Saho had spent a long time under State custody but that was not enough to guarantee his freedom because the crime committed was a serious one and could not go unpunished.
