4H The Gambia, recently donated fishing materials and a bicycle to Niaw Regional Committee in CRR at a ceremony held at Manna Village. 4H The Gambia, is a NGO operating in the CRR with the aim of empowering the youths and women.
Handing over the materials, Alieu Ceesay of 4H The Gambia, called on the beneficiaries to take up fishing activity seriously as it is an important skill. He further asserted that, if the youths venture into fishing activities, it will not only generate income but create job opportunities. He then urged them to make best use of the materials.
Banna Suso, the area instructor also spoke at length on the objectives of the project noting that it is aimed at provide sufficient fishing materials and improve the economy of the committee members. He said the provision of these materials will not only serve as an employment opportunity, but also minimise rural urban migration. He pointed out that, eleven thousand dalasis was spent on the materials as a grant and any amount generated should be added to their revolving fund.
Speaking on behalf of the Alkalo of Manna, Kebba Fanta Komma, thanked 4H The Gambia for their generosity. He called on the beneficiaries to take the advantage of the opportunity noting that this assistance will go a long way in reducing unemployment and help to improve the economy of the communities as well as ensure fish sufficiency in the communities.
