Ghanaian tourism delegation arrives

A 12 member delegation from various sectors of tourism in Ghana, have arrived in the country on a five-day working visit.

The visit is a follow-up to the recently concluded family station trip to the country by a team of Ghanaian tourism stakeholders. The objectives of the visit revolves around the consolidation of the already existing mutual cooperation between the tourism sectors of the two countries, as well as discuss issues of partnership in the areas of sub-regional tourism development and marketing.

During the course of their stay in the country, the delegates will hold discussions on various issues to work out a common programme and a joint promotional strategy at the level of the sub-region, especially to increase the volume of visitors to the respective countries. At the end of the working visit, the two countries are expected to sign a Memorandum of Understanding.

Speaking at a press briefing held at the Sunbeach Hotel in Cape Point, Alieu Secka, Chairman of Gambia Hotel Association (GHA), said this visit will go a long way in strengthening the already existing relationship between the two countries and the development of their tourism products. Mr. Secka encouraged the delegation to interact and share ideas with their Gambian counterparts on issues of tourism development.
Sheila Apenteng, President of Ghana Tourism Federation, described the visit as important in tourism development. “By sharing ideas, we can overcome any obstacles in the development of the industry,” she said.

Prince Sanni, Vice-President of the Tour Operators Union of Ghana, urged The Gambia to join the West Africa Tourism Union called for “flexible tourism development” in the sub-region. He expounded on the role of the union.

Ousman Kebbeh, Human Resource Officer and Press Consultant at the GTA, urged both the Ghanaian delegation and their Gambian counterparts to consider including journalists in their delegations. According to him, this is crucial in publicising the programmes of the tourism sectors  Lamin Saho, Director of Marketing at the Gambia Tourism Authority (GTA), chaired the press conference.
