Forum on the Role of Press Held

The Gambia Student Press Association on Saturday organized a forum on the theme Role of Students in Strengthening the Power of the Media.

The event, held at Nusrat Senior Secondary School in Bundung, was aimed at improving the writing as well as the oratory skills of students and it brought together participants from Abuko Upper Basic, Banjulinding Upper Basic School and Nusrat Senior Secondary School.

Speaking at the symposium, the deputy Director General of GRTS, Alhaji Modou Joof, encouraged students to choose journalism as a career, adding that the profession is a noble one as the roles of journalists entail informing, educating and entertaining the public.

For his part, the Vice Principal of Nusrat Senior Secondary School, Mr. Kemokai, spoke at length about the importance of a vibrant press to the sustainable socio-economic development aspirations of any nation-state. He therefore, emphasised the significance of timely, factual and accurate dissemination of information.

Mr. Kemokai urged journalists to be steadfast in the execution of their social responsibilities of informing, educating and entertaining the public.

Other speakers on the occasion include the Editor-in-Chief of Foroyaa newspaper, Mr. Sam Sarr.
