3 arraigned for false information

Mariama Touray, Ebrima Touray, and Abdou Fatty, were on Wednesday 4 February 2009, brought before Magistrate Kumba Sillah-Camara of the Bundung Magistrates Court for allegedly giving false information to a public officers.

In his evidence before the court, Inspector Edrisa Ndure of the Tallinding Police Station told the court that on July 21, 2008, while on duty at the Tallinding Station, the second accused, Ebrima Touray, came and told him that he wanted to bail one of his brothers who was in police custody at the time. Inspector Ndure added that he told Touray that the Station Officer was not around asked him to come back later.

The Inspector further explained that later on, two men, who identified themselves as Foroyaa reporters, came to the station to verify an allegation that the police were bribed to arrest some youths in Ebou Town including Ebrima Touray’s brother. He said when the officer on duty at the time was asked to shed light on the matter, the allegation was proven as false. Subsequently, the three who reported the matter to the Foroyaa reporters were charged for given false information to public officers.

The case was adjourned to 17 March. Lawyer Martin represented the accused persons while Corporal Sarr represented the IGP at the trial.
