One Lamin Bojang and 14 other drivers were recently arraigned before the Bundung Magistrates Court, on multiple charges of conduct not conducive to peace, contrary to the Public Order Act.
The 14 other accused persons were identified as Momodou Jallow, Ansu Samateh, Mamadi Samateh, Ebrima Drammeh, Omar Manneh, Wuyeh Saidykhan, Lamin Jawara, Ebrima Darboe Ebrima Saidy, Kutubo Janneh, Basiru Bouye, Momodou Trawally, Abdou Cham and Lamin Jabang.
The 15 drivers who appeared before Senior Magistrate Kumba Sillah-Camara are: They all have pleaded not guilty to the offense which contravenes Section 9 of the Act.
According to the prosecution, Lamin Bojang and 13 others on 18th June 2008, at around 9:00 am at Bakoteh Tanji Car Park, in the Kanifing Municipality, conducted themselves in a manner likely to cause breach of the peace.
Count two indicated that on the same day, place and time, Lamin Bojang and 14 others conducted themselves in a manner likely to cause breach of peace.
In her ruling, Senior Magistrate Kumba Sillah Camara granted the accused persons bail at the sum of D20,000 or a Gambian surety for each. The accused have expressed their intention to seek legal representation.
The magistrate later adjourned the case to August 13 for continuation of the proceedings. Corporal 758 Sarr stood in for the Inspector General of Police.
