Alieu Moamar Njie, former mayor of the Kanifing Municipal Council recently testified before the Bundung Magistrates’ Court on the ongoing theft case at the Gambia Scout Association involving the clerk, Mbayick Faye.
Testifing before Senior Magistrate Kumba Sillah-Camara, Alieu Moamar Njie informed the court that, he was the former Mayor of the KMC but now a retired civil servant.
He told the court he could recalled that on March 24, 2004, he was the then Chief Scout Commissioner of The Gambia and had work closely with the accused,Mbayick Faye as he too was serving as an employee.
According to him, Mbayick Faye was responsible for the store and supply of goods consisting of scout uniforms, badges, amongst others which were recommended for sale and proceeds of which are to be bank with Trust Bank, Westfield branch.
He further told the court that, then Mbayick Faye agreed with the go ahead of the sale of which he sign of receving the goods, but during an audit in what was left in his possession and the amount been bank from the sale, the amount did not tally with what was given to him.
“ A shortages of D120,000 was discovered of which he acknowledge and promise to pay back on a dateline that was never honoured” he said.
According to him, he gave a statement to the Police and quickly added that he first reported the matter to Bokoteh Police Station but the matter finally landed at Banjul Police Headquaters.
At that juncture, police prosecutor Sergeant 772 Samateh, showed former Mayor Njie some Trust Bank payslips for identification of which he confirmed and was then tendered in court and marked as exhibits.
The case was then adjourned to April 21, for the accused to cross-examined the prosecution withness.
