The Bundung Home Red Cross Link is one of the strongest links within the Kanifing Municipal Red Cross branch of The Gambia. It recently organised a one-day ceremony to outline its 11th annual external evaluation and inauguration plans. The ceremony was attended by over two hundred participants.

In delivering the Red Cross activity reports Mr. Musa Touray said that the period under review will go down in the annual Red Cross link as the 11th annual evaluation which is a unique and memorable statistic.
The head of the Red Cross activities report underscored the history of the great link and described it as remarkable.

He pointed out that the period under review has been marked by success stories in terms of the activities carried out but that certain constraints had also been encountered.

Among the areas covered by Mr. Touray were membership recruitment, capacity building, socialization and networking. He said that membership recruitment is high on the agenda and that figures show membership has increased by 30% or 312 in real figures. The Red Cross activities reporter revealed that one of the method used in increase membership was the organisation of numerous social activities and that this had seen membership boosted by 10%.

Turning to the area of capacity building Mr. Touray explained that the effective and efficient delivery of services such as the training of volunteers being trained in basic first aid was bearing fruit. 35 volunteers were trained on intensive first aid and 46 on the dissemination of information on the aims and fundamental principals of the organisation. He further revealed that from June to October 2007 24 volunteers benefited from a four month basic computer training course run by the People Centre.

He finally pointed out that part of the capacity building programme meant that lectures are conducted before the commencement of the weekly meetings.
