Four accused persons, Almamy Fatty, Bakary Fatty, Musa Jammeh and Musa Camara were on Monday arraigned before Magistrate Ayoub John Njie of the Brikama Magistrates’ Court charge for impersonation and conspiracy to commit felony.
The four were alleged to have attempted to travel on one passport to Austria and Spain.
When the charge was read to them, Almamy Fatty and Bakary Fatty pleaded guilty to the charges preffered against them.
According to the police prosecutor, ASP Juldeh Camara, the four accused persons used to travel with one passport to Austria and Spain.
ASP Camara, told the court that the second accused Bakary Fatty had travelled with the passport to Spain and was deported back to The Gambia. He further revealed that when Bakary Fatty arrived at the Banjul International Airport, he was interrogated by the state security. “During the interrogation of Bakary Fatty by the security, the involvement of the other three accused persons was revealed” he said..
He told the court that when the other three were arrested, the first accused, Almamy Fatty who was the owner of the passport, told the police that he did the act only to help his brothers to also go and look for greener pasture.
In their mitigation, Almamy Fatty and Bakary Fatty, begged the court to temper justice with mercy saying that every man is bound to make mistakes and pledged that they will not do such an act again in living memory.
Magistrate Ayoub John Njie then sentenced the two Almamy Fatty and Bakary Fatty who pleaded guilty to a fine of D500 each.
The case of Musa Jammeh and Musa Camara who pleaded not guilty resumes on the 19 April.
