One Babucarr King was last Thursday dragged to the Brikama Magistrates’ Court to face charges of being in possession of prohibited drugs for the purpose of trafficking, which does not comply with the National Drug Enforcement Agency Control Act.
According to the statement of offence on or about 28 January 2007, at Ebo Town in the Kanifing Municipality council, the accused was found in possession of 360 grams of Cannabis Sativa.
However, after reading the charge sheet to the accused in the crowded court-room, he claimed to understand the charge preferred against him and he pleaded not guilty to it.
As a result, the case has to proceed into full trial to enable the police prosecutor to prove his case beyond all reasonable doubt.
At that point in time, the police prosecutor representing the NDEA Abdoulie Ceesay decided to apply for adjournment to enable him to call his witnesses. The application was then granted and the case was deferred for continuation.
The accused was however remanded.
