Court vindicates Abdoulie Sosseh

Magistrate John Njie of the Brikama Magistrates’ Court, on Friday, acquitted and discharged Abdoulie Sosseh, the former vice president of the Gambia Transport, Agricultural and Industrial Workers’ Union, who was standing trial on charges of forging the union’s membership card and letterhead.

In handing down his judgement, Magistrate Njie, who considered the trial as an exercise, told the court that it would take a time long time, if the court should have to go through all the evidence advanced during the course of the trial.

However, Magistrate Njie further told the court that the testimony of Alieu Ngum, a defence witness, was credible and utterly convincing.

He revealed that it was said that the union was in a state of bankruptcy and that Mr Sosseh was consulted to help raise funds.

 “In that process, it was agreed that the membership card and the letterhead be changed. That is not a forgery,” he concluded.
The Magistrate finally accquitted and discharged Mr Sosseh, as the prosecution could not prove its case beyound all reasonable doubts.
