Bansang School Holds on Child Rights

Friday, April 13, 2007
Over 65 students of Bansang Senior/Upper Basic School recently concluded a one-day sensitization workshop on child rights and teenage pregnancy.

The workshop, held in SEN hall in Bansang, Central River Region, was organised by Bansang School and funded by Child Protection Alliance (CPA).

Speaking on the importance of the workshop, the programme coordinator, Mr Lamin T. Cham, said children should be made to know their rights and be able to distinguish rights and privileges.

He further said that children need protection and should be brought up properly since they are the future leaders of the country.

Mr Ismaila Ceesay, the Principal of Bansang School, said teenage pregnancy and truancy occur as a result of love for materials, paired influence and importation of western culture.

If parents or guardians fail to bring up their children in the right way, the children will end up failing woefully in life, Mr Ceesay remarked.
