Sunday, March 1, 2009
Detective Corporal Njaga Jatta of the National Drug Squard, last Thursday, February 25, told the Banjul Magistrates court presided over by Magistrate Edrisa Mbai  that on January 3, he and some of his men, found an empty bag of rice at the top of a mango tree in Kololi containing 5 bondles of Cannabis.

The detective made this evidence in court against one Seku Camara of Kololi who is standing trial of being in possession of the said 4.80g of Cannabis. Detective Corporal  Jatta said on that day, they received information that Seku was in possession of cannabis and acting on that information, they were able to find 19 parcels of cannabis in the accused person’s house.

“After a thorough search of the compound, an empty bag of rice was also found at the top of a mango tree containing the 5 bondles of cannabis” he told the court. But during cross examination, Seku put it to Detective Jatta that the cannabis found at the top of the mango tree did not belong to him, because he did not live at the top of the mango tree.

In response, Detective Corporal  told the accused person that he earlier on confessed to them that the cannabis found in both places belonged to him. At that stage, the prosecuting officer applied for an adjournment which was granted by the court.
