The protracted criminal case involving Mr Willy Joof, The Gambia’s ex-ambassador to the Republic of France, is expected to resume today, September 22nd, before Senior Magistrate Kayode Olajubutu of the Banjul Magistrates Court.
Mr Willy Joof is facing 8 counts of criminal offences ranging from theft to abuse of office. The case has stalled since May 2008, after the arrest and subsequent detention of Mr Burama Dibba, the former police crime management coordinator (CMC), who is also the second prosecution witness (PW 2) in the trial.
Mr Burama Dibba, has given his evidence in chief and was supposed to be cross-examined by the defence counsel, Lamin Camara, but owing to his arrest and detention, the case suffered a setback preceding the presiding magistrate’s annual leave in August 2008.
Today’s proceedings into Willy Joof’s trial are expected to be characterised by the cross-examination of PW 2, Burama Dibba, who was the police investigation officer into the case and had gone as far as the Republic of France to investigate the matter.
