The two separate charges of theft involving Ansumana Marena, fondly called Julakay, who is the proprietor of Julakay Construction and Engineering Company Ltd, could not proceed at the Banjul Magistrates Court yesterday, because the accused’s case files were sent to the Attorney General (AG) Chambers for legal advice.
This was revealed in the chamber of the presiding senior magistrate, Kayode Olajubutu, by the police prosecutor, Corporal Sanyang.
The senior magistrate consequently adjourned the case to August 18 for continuation. Embattled Ansumana Marena has been charged for allegedly stealing D13,587,782.41, belonging to Julakay Construction and Engineering Company Ltd, at the Arab Gambia Islamic Bank (AGIB) in Banjul, in December 2003.
According to the prosecution, the accused, in January 2006, in Banjul and diverse places in The Gambia, stole a motor vehicle (L200 Mitsubishi, registration BJL 4695B) valued at D600,000, also belonging to Julakay Construction and Engineering Company.
Mr Marena was also charged for preparing a false document and uttering a false document, contrary to the Criminal Code, Cap 10 Volume III, Laws of The Gambia.
