John Wilcox, vice chairman of the governing council of the West African Insurance Institute, accompanied by officials of the  institute, yesterday, paid a courtesy call on President Alhaji Dr Yahya Jammeh at State House.

Speaking to journalists shortly after meeting the Gambian leader, Wilcox said the purpose of their visit was to brief the president on the upcoming 30th anniversary of the institute which coincides with the 29th graduation ceremony as well as the activities lined up for the events.

He revealed that since the institution’s establishment in The Gambia 15 years ago, 3000 students have  successfully graduated, most of whom are now chief executives of insurance firms in English speaking West Africa.

Wilcox then disclosed that the institute will be teaching finance matters in line with the government’s desire to make The Gambia the financial hub of the region.
